Penn Valley Addition-Renovations
Penn Valley, PA
Our clients purchased a 1940’s era, two-story stone Colonial with a convenient location and nice property. The basic bones of the house were good, but it suffered from anachronistic separation of living spaces and a small and segregated kitchen space. There was little connection of the living spaces to the yards. The Master Bedroom and bath were on the small side and lacked modern fixtures and finishes. A walk-out basement was underutilized, dark and uninviting. We envisioned an addition that opened up the 1st floor to create informal living-eating-cooking spaces along the rear of the house. It also created a gracious Master suite with a commanding view of the rear yard on the 2nd floor and provided play space on the walk-out lower level. The finely appointed kitchen connects to the existing Dining Room, provides informal countertop seating, and opens to a Breakfast Room and sitting area. Ceiling mouldings imply a separation of space while allowing different areas to remain connected. These interior spaces open out onto an elevated deck to the east and a flagstone terrace to the west. The spacious Master suite affords a treetop view for sleeping and lounging, a generous and updated bathroom with a large walk-in shower and an ample walk-in closet.
